What's crazier to me is that people are buying them at those prices, like guys, you don't NEED this controller that bad, it's just a controller, (by most accounts, a perfectly cromulent, but not super exceptional controller) and it'll be back in stock eventually, it's just like the Steam Deck, when it launched, they were out of stock for like 6 months, and then eventually they became easy to order (and then the rampocalypse happened, and they were gone again, but there was a good year and a half long window where the deck was easily available.) Like I'd love to get one too, and I'm really surprised valve didn't anticipate sales to be way higher than what it looks like they expected, but like we aren't losing out on anything miraculous that isn't available with any other decent controllers.

And it even would hurt regular customers more than scalpers, saying you have big family that you wanna play with + buy a presents for family of your friend and with limitations you couldn't do it. Scalpers, on the other hand, not using 1 account, they using numbers of bots witch is counts as "different customers". Only way to get rid of them - price regulation, says range of prices shouldn't exceed price from manufacturer (excluding transportation) more than 1,5 times for example (might even be lower). You trying to fight the problem, leaving it's source unmentioned, so that way you never beat it

Gabe could do a few things to help. One, make it so the GabeCube sell cue is split in two, half open and half that prioritizes steam accounts over 5yrs old. Attach the serial number to the account used to purchase the cube, and if it logs on to another account flag it for investigation. Put a disclaimer out across all platforms that people who buy the cubes, within 6 months of release date, from outside of valve will be locked out of the ecosystem. It's not perfect but will help

I got on steam at exactly the drop time. It took me 32 minutes of refreshing and mass clicking the purchase to finally glitch it out and add to cart. I was lucky but honestly I hate that this is always the case now.

Idea on how to fix the scammer problem. You can only order up to 2 controllers per steam account. And the steam account must be atleast a year old, or have a minimum of 5 games, that cost actual money when purchased. With a minimum of £100 spent of said games (to deter scrapers making new account and just buying 5 cheap indie games)

I was lucky and checked the site slightly early and had funds in my Steam wallet. I was able to buy one at launch. This makes up for me not being able to get the original Steam controller when they had it on sale.

But while there is many scalpers, I believe there was also just a lot of regular people like me buying these. People love Steam stuff. Myself included. But still, yes. All orders should be canceled. Re-released to pre order to steam accounts given a set period to order one. If time pass then it gets canceled and gotta wait.

Remember when steam introduced a system for the steam deck? The one where you had to have an account months prior to the release and it put you on a waiting list for just 1$ (which was refundable) which helped prevent this. Can we do that again?
