I never noticed the hundreds times Ive listened to this opening cause the audio was always muffled, but as Kaiba summons Battle Ox you can hear a sorta *"Shing-BOOM'* in the music before the Drum beat kicks in giving off a sorta Abrakadabra-like vibe as the Ox lights up a split second then bursts forth from the card 0:35 This minor detail enhanced my overall Love and Perception of this Song and Opening

This Yugi was the real deal not like the one who plays a kid card game to save the world

Season 0 is really just season 1, duel monsters is season 2, HOWEVER, season 2 assumes you haven't seen season 1 so it repeats the Kaiba vs Yami duel repeats the bakura versus everyone in the shadow game, and just pretends they're happening for the first time. If you read the manga it all just flows correctly - bakura is with the gang literally from the beginning of duelist kingdom in the manga, and its really just a manga that goes from all kind of games and a sadistic yugi, to calmer yugi and only duel monsters as the game

back when yu gi oh is actually good

So much of my childhood was Yu-Gi-Oh and it's not just the cards. One of the first manga series i read and actively bought the volumes of was the finnish translation of the original manga. I remember my mom teaching me about computers and torrenting this Toei season for me when i was a fucking baby because she knew that i liked the manga and egyptian mythology. It's one of the main reasons why i got into anime and manga to begin with, and one of the main reasons why i appreciate animation and serialized comics as much as i do as an art form. So much of what i like in art, subconscious and conscious, is from this franchise. Not to even mention how it was one of the few things that helped me get out there and socialize with people in school because everyone liked the card game despite no one understanding the rules. RIP and thank you.

Coming back to listen before the year ends

While i REALLY do like the Duel Monsters series, i found season 0 far more entertaining, it was something completely new yet really old. There are many series that deserves more episodes like Everybody Loves Raymond and Lucky Star, and Season 0 is one of them (which won't happen but i still wish).

ah yes, season 0, where Tristan's name was honda and joey/jonouchi's hair was actually good looking, and kaiba had green hair, and honda and jonouchi them were perverts to tea, aka anzu, as well as yugi being a gangster and gambling his life or his friends lives just to teach weaklings a lesson, as well as jonouchi and yugi getting beat up almost every episode. Amazing show for kids!

The YuGiOh anime where the Pharoah just doesn’t care for his victims.

God this song evokes nothing but nostalgia, like the smell of a dnd core book or playing arcanum in the attic on the old computer.

A fun fact i noticed: During the chorus, when Yugi summons Dark Magician (wich btw, never appears in the show), you can briefly see what looks like Pegasus' Castle. This plus some official Toei artwork of Yugi with the star chip bracelet reveal that Toei were originally planning to adapt Duelist Kingdom.

This literally makes me happy, I feel truly happy.

4/4/98: The date Toei's anime adaptation of Yu-Gi-Oh! released. Also, the date Bandai's card game of the series released. With that said... the term "Season 0" is incorrect and just ignorant. I wish that term hadn't spread because it damages the work and vision Kazuki Takahashi made. You could have called it "Yugioh 1998", "Yugioh Toei anime" or "Yugioh Season 1". Plus, the Yugioh manga was released outside of Japan in 2003 and it covered the story from start (Before Duel Monsters) to finish. No reason anyone should be using the term.

I watched the whole series in December and loved it :) I think season 0 and duel monsters is awesome. I always love the Games of Darkness idea and it shows development onto Duel Monsters. I liked the cards appearance more in Duel Monsters and the fact Kaiba had no green hair XD

I was introduced to this version of Yu-Gi-Oh quite early because of infamy on the internet and the intro song has been stuck in my head ever since. I might have been an American introduced to Yu-Gi-Oh by the 4kids dub but for some reason I remember this intro better than the English dub intro for Duel Monsters. I also remember it better than any of the Japanese intro songs for Duel monsters as well.

Lol i wish they'd remake yugioh 0 or even the whole thing here me out. What we saw as kids was a classic and the on going series such as yuigoh vrains that can still go on cuz i love playmaker , but i wonder if they should remake yugioh like have this dark take on yugi and actually not even about the games i mean i like yugis dark side in this when he tortures ppl. Like almost a slice of life supernatural school adaptation of yugioh , but probably not Netflix would get there hands on it and mess everything up. Some of their stuff was good but not the evangelion dub.
