What he’s doing this season, and really anything since he came into the league, is generational talent. The fact he’s an ACE of a starting pitcher BUT he’s doing what he’s doing this year. I would go on to say he should never pitch again and he’s still worth what he’s being paid. But the fact you can count on him to be a stud of a pitcher, while also being the best hitter, and a very good base runner… man this guy is game changing. Litterally is changing the game of baseball. For those of you who say it's easier to steal bases (to the extent that milestones like this can be easily achieved) how come other players aren't stealing more bases? Why hasn't there been an increase in bases stolen since the 90's? It certainly has fluctuated, but the total number of bases stolen per season hasn't increased dramatically whatsoever.

Not only is he a great athlete, he is really smart! Finally, one more thing about his characteristic behavior, Why has he worked hard since he was a teenager to become a two-way player, despite the opposition of many, and why has he made it to the majors? And why he puts the team's victory first and is generous in exchanging information and advice with his teammates to help them win. I played pro baseball for five years back in the 90's. Grew up watching it. When you add up all the ingredients here-- a 90 mph pitching arm. Speed. Power. Big game player. I think we are watching the all time great. There's plenty more time to prove that point. I look forward to seeing what comes next.

Something to think about. Ohtani was 2nd in the lineup to Mookie Betts at the beginning of the season. Betts got hurt June 16th 2 1/2 months into the season. Imagine what Mr O could have done if he started off as the leadoff hitter. Oh well. What's done is done -things work out for a reason. How many more stolen bases Ohtani would have especially with his incredible success rate of 51 out of 54.
